Things have been on the upswing for me within the last few days. My mood is elevated and I feel like I’ve gotten out of the funk that I’ve been in the past few weeks. I credit that in large part to my friends and family. I have been feeling particularly grateful for my parents especially in recent days.
Yesterday, I had the entire day to spend with my mom, since my dad and brother were out golfing and my sister was at work. That is time that the two of us alone don’t get very often, or haven’t since I have gone off to college. We kicked off the day with a walk around the West Hartford Reservoir. It was in the 80s and sunny, so the reservoir was beautiful and we got a chance to catch up and talk as we wound through the trail.
Afterwards mom suggested we get pedicures. It had been probably a year since I’d had a pedicure, since I don’t often get my nails done, so I agreed. We went to Tiffany nails in Park Road area and both picked out similar lilac colors for our toes. The experience was relaxing, interrupted only by the fact that I am ticklish on my feet, so there was a lot of giggling involved in the process.
We stopped by J. Rene for iced coffee afterward and then Halls Market in the same general vicinity to get a late lunch, since at that point it was past 4 pm. We both got roast beef sandwiches with lettuce and tomato on pumpernickel bread. We got the car washed on the way home and came back to the house to sunbathe on the deck in bathing suits.
The rest of my family members arrived home shortly after. I finished off the night watching The Incredibles 2 for the second time in theaters with my friend Hannah (it was just as good this time around).
Today, my good mood has extended, especially since today is Father’s Day. I love family time and letting people know how much they mean to me.
I feel so lucky to have the dad that I do. He is silly, goofy, and lighthearted, yet also levelheaded and logical when he needs to be. I am constantly in awe of how talented he is in different creative fields like photography and art. I also admire the positive, happy, and grateful approach he has to life. He is generous and really takes the time to tell people in his life that he values them and is thinking of them, which is such a special quality in a person.
For those reasons, I am excited to celebrate him today with family dinner, cards, and gifts because he deserves to know how much he is loved.Happy Father’s Day and best wishes to everyone š
